Artesis PCM ( Plant Condition Monitor ) for Turbine     Generators

MONITORS YOUR PLANT
PLANS YOUR INVESTMENT

The Plant Condition Monitor or Artesis PCM is a device that provides early warning for impending failures (both mechanical and electrical) of generators by measuring only the currents and voltages of the generator. The device provides continuous information about the health of the generator-based system. As a fault develops, Artesis PCM displays alarm levels based on both the severity of the fault and the rate at which the fault develops. The device presently is intended for use as a maintenance scheduler. Artesis PCM is a new take on for the use of generator current to identify plant condition. Artesis PCM which is different from Artesis’s MCM in hardware and software base monitors turbine generators

As it is well known downtime of a major unit can cost hundreds of thousands of dollars a day.  In order to make it imperative for utilities to improve reliability and reduce downtime, Artesis PCM offers a unique solution that safeguards Turbine generators  from common faults, both electrical and mechanical, such as:

          Misalignment,

•          Unbalance,

•          Bearing Faults,

•          Short-Circuits

          Partial Discharge

Artesis PCM   is a manufactured as a small, box-shaped device that is suitable for installation on control panels. After the device completes a learning period, it starts to monitor the system by acquiring real-time data from generators and processing that data to compare the actual condition with the one obtained during the learning mode. If the difference exceeds a set of thresholds, the user is warned by means of a liquid crystal display and a number of light emitting diodes on the front panel of the device. Different light emitting diodes are lighted up depending upon the severity of the impending fault. Lighting up other light emitting diodes also indicates fluctuations in line and load conditions.

The device measures only three phase voltage and current signals of a system. Using the measured three phase voltage and current signals, in addition to the nonphysical model parameters, it calculates a set of physical parameters such as rms-values of three phase voltage and current, power factor, etc.., therefore monitors the system continuously. This set also includes parameters such as total harmonic distortion, harmonic content of the incoming signal and voltage imbalance, which give an idea about the quality of incoming power. Active and reactive power parameters in this set might be used for energy consumption estimations. Therefore, it combines many physical quantities that are of the interest to both production and maintenance operators just in one device. A selected physical quantity can be displayed on the liquid crystal display.

Artesis PCM   can be integrated to SCADA system using the Modbus communication protocol and to other maintenance management systems; however it is also possible to use it with its own desktop application, MCMSCADA+Diagnostics. Using this desktop application, the status, physical and nonphysical parameters of several electric motor-based machinery, equipment and processes in a plant can be monitored from several different computers at remote locations. Trend analysis might be performed on the past values stored in a database.

ARTESIS PCM: KEY BENEFITS:

·             Allows you to:

                    Improve control over equipment performance

                    Improve plant performance

                    Improve control over maintenance work

Provide better visibility of equipment performance and condition

                    Reduce breakdowns

Respond more rapidly to plant breakdowns

                    Identify breakdowns more rapidly

                    Identify breakdowns before they occur

                    Fix faults more rapidly

                    Identify faults more rapidly

·          Easy to use

                    Easy to interpret results

No need to interpret ‘wiggly lines’

                    Clear guidance on action required

·          Automatically learns, and then monitors relationship between voltage and current in the generator

·          Allows monitoring wherever you are-in the office, at another site, from home...

·          Provides alerts to your staff  to take action

   By warning on screen

   By sending e-mail

   By sending text message

·          Automatically does all the analysis to provide simple clear answers

·          Robust

Nothing out on the plant so not prone to damages from corrosion, mechanical damage, heat, vibration, radiation etc.

·          Easy to integrate with other systems, e.g. CMMS, to raise work orders

·          Can support power users if you want

Historical graphs, trends, etc available for easy analysis if required

·          Can be provided as an external service- to monitor and advice as required.

·          In addition to monitoring condition of equipment, Artesis provides information on plant operating conditions too (information on power consumption, phase angle and total harmonic distortion can allow plant efficiency to be optimized)
