How does MQM detect faults?

The faults of an electric motor affect the characteristic behavior of the motor which in turn affects the parameters describing the motor. MQM identifies these parameters and detects the changes of the parameters from their expected value and associates them with the faults. As an example, the mechanical faults of the motor due to bearing faults, imbalance, etc.,distort the symmetry in the airgap.the effects of this eccentricity in the airgap is amplified by the current, which in turn cause static and dynamic change in the value of the inductance.

How can all the parameters of the motor be determined from only measurements of voltage, current and speed?

These measurements are taken when the motor is supplied with a rich signal which excites all the modes of the motor. The signal is specially designed for the particular motor type and is called a Pseudo Random Binary Sequence (PRSB). Therefore these measurements may be considered to be infinitely many measurements and they are in sufficient length to identify all the parameters.

Does MQM measure noise and vibration levels?

No, MQM does not measure the noise and vibration levels. However, noise and vibration causing faults affect and change parameters of the motor. MQM detects these changes and therefore screens motors with unacceptable noise and vibration levels

Can I rely on MQM to detect noisy motors?

MQM has reduced the washing machine customer returns of Arçelik due to noise by half. The final judge is the appliance customer. İt may take a few months to see the result but they will be convincing. We also market MQM to appliance manufacturers. Thus, we can work with you to convince them on the expected MQM results.

Absolutely! MQM provides in-depth information on the dynamic behavior of the motor, which is directly related to its physical structure. Thus, its possible to screen motors which have physical characteristics that would lead to an unacceptable behavior if installed on the appliance. The experimental modeling algorithms utilized by MQM are uniquely accurate and had been previously implemented in more complex systems such as the helicopter motor or the space shuttle main engine.

What is the expected payback period for MQM?

The pricing of MQM is based on a 1 year payback. That results from the increase in revenue per line and the cost saving, due to scrap and rework reduction. How long does it take and how difficult it is to create the initial model of the motor?

It takes only one or two days to get fully operational with MQM on the manufacturing line. The motor model is created experimentally through taking measurements from a set of motors that represents the typical production. This would only take a half-day.

Can I use the experimental modeling capabilities in the design process?

Certainly.
Once MQM is implemented on the manufacturing line, the design department will have the mean and variance information on the critical design parameters for 100% of the motors manufactured. İt can utilize this information to create any remedies at the design stage to get closer to the target mean or reduce the variance.

How can I set the thresholds for MQM?

The good thing with MQM is that you can start with your existing manufacturing variance as the acceptable level and move your way upwards. The reference model creation is done with a set of motors that represents the entire manufactured set. Thus, the mean and variance information is recorded automatically and are used as the starting point.
